Should i get an intercooler for my xbox 360

Thanks for your feedback. They are not a mod, so you wont get a ban, but they are not sanctioned by MS at all, and are actually not recommended. If you have a hardware issue while using one, it's use could void any warranty. Like Wildmn said, I wouldn't use an intercooler of any sort, I am almost positive Xbox themselves recommend not using them. His idea of using a laptop cooling fan may work, but if you don't do that make sure to have your Xbox in an open area and raising it from whatever its sitting on could help too.

The problem with the "Intercooler" is can potentially burn out the fans on the console. The console fans speed up and slow down when needed, the intercooler will make the fan or fans depends if it's an original or new style S run faster than they need to be.

This can cause alot more issues than just overheating. When the fan or fans burn out they could potentially send a surge through the motherboard of your console, and could very well damage it beyond repair.

The best way to fix an overheating issue is just to make sure it is in an open area where all vents are unobstucted.

If this does not help, than I suggest you send in your console for repair. You can learn how to start a repair order here. I used that before, I didn't like it. It's not that it was bad or it didn't damage my console, it's just that the biggest downside, to me at least, was the excessive noise. It's a given that these coolers will make some noise, but with the Nyko, it had gotten so bad that I just returned it.

I recommend not using any of these coolers, they just make things worse. The Nyko Intercooler isn't pleasing to the eyes or the ears. It's ugly and bulky, and it makes the already loud system even noisier. While the Nyko Intercooler indeed works as advertised, it probably makes sense only for those who consider themselves marathon gamers. Nyko Intercooler Microsoft caught a lot of flack when, out of the gate, some of its initial batch of Xbox consoles turned out to be defective. Chief among the complaints was that the console ran extremely hot and was prone to overheating.

After message boards filled with solutions such as increasing the amount of ventilation and keeping your power source elevated, the furor--and the problem--subsided, and most Xbox owners were simply left with hot-running systems that worked fine.

Whether this heat is an issue over the long term is unclear, but one company has released a product specifically designed to chill out your console. Score Breakdown Design 5 Features 7 Performance 6. When Aaron, from Gaming World Industries, bought the Intercooler himself to test out the product, it only worked for 2 months before it killed his Xbox He called Nyko for an explanation, it stated that like most products on the market, the Intercooler has a small defect rate and is a reliable product.

Now, no one really knows who to blame.
