Why is game of thrones rated tv ma

The sex is very graphic and almost always one sided male nudity was shown less than a handful of times per season where female nudity was shown several times per episode. The show relies heavily on shock value a 7 or 8 year old child sucking on the nipple of a character supposed to be his mother, a man who "marries" and has sex with his underage daughters then "marries" and has sex with their underage daughters, etc. It's sad because the show has many merits I just wish they would realize that women and apparently 13 year old kids watch this show, too.

To summarize: Not in a million years acceptable for kids. Acceptable only for adults who want to see a really interesting story play out and can handle watching repeated scenes of rape, incest, graphic nudity, graphic sex, torture, gruesome deaths, mutilation and prostitution. Adult Written by yuri13 September 27, If was a movie Had useful details. Read my mind 4. Adult Written by Sadman December 23, Adults only but not as perverse as some make it out to be The quality of acting and storytelling in Game of Thrones is beyond reproach.

What people want to know is opinions on the sex and violence. Frankly I find the show to be considerably tamer than a number of other sex- and violence-filmed shows currently on the air. Orange is the New Black is far more sexually explicit, as is Girls. Banshee is far more violent and sexual. Yes, there are sex and nude scenes in Game of Thrones, but if you binge-watch you'll notice they actually become less frequent as the show goes on.

And the show's most controversial sexual scene - the rape of a major character in Season 5 - actually takes place entirely off-screen. While I do feel GoT and True Blood share the blame for the hypersexualization of TV in the last few years, it's actually in my opinion the lesser of the evils, or at least it becomes lesser after the show "sows its wild oats" in the first season.

A caveat: my comments are based on the show up to the end of Season 5. Anything that might occur in Season 6 and beyond I can't predict. Violence-wise, the show is pretty relentless, but even then the violence is usually plot driven rather than just there for the heck of it. To be fair, this also applies to many of the sex scenes, some of which were included strictly as an avenue to provide boring plot exposition in a way that catches people's attention. At least the producers were being honest about why they felt the need to include sex scenes.

There are some good points: there are some fantastic characters that I would consider role models including one, Brienne, who also demonstrates excellent body image role-modelling , and swearing is actually quite rare though the F and C word show up on occasion. Put the kids to bed and enjoy. But don't let the little ones see this. Update September : I wrote the above based on the first 5 seasons. Season 6 ended up being the first and so far only season to have no sex scenes - and that made it actually a stronger season.

It still had some nudity including an extreme closeup of male genitalia, played for juvenile laughs , but the sense with Season 6 is that the end game was approaching so they needed to focus. Season 7 had more sexual content than 6, but interestingly it was much tamer than what we'd been used to, though there is one scene towards the end of Series 7 which I won't spoil the nature of which will likely offend based upon the relationship between the two characters.

As for violence, it's pretty consistently heavy. Language seems to get more adult in Season 7 with more uses of the F and C words than before. Season 7 is also NOT a jumping on point. With only two seasons left to tell the story, the time for world-building and establishing characters has ended, so if you want to explore the series for the first time, you need to go back to the beginning.

With the kids in bed, of course. This title contains: Positive role models. Parent Written by Jmlg. Rediculous sex scenes There's absolutely no reason to put nudity or any sex scenes in these movies. I'm way old enough as an adult and wouldn't see this with my 70 year old parent. It's embarrassing! Parent of a 13 and year-old Written by Skander January 29, Parents continue to be misled in general by other misled parents.

I'm 16, started watching this with my older brother when i was 15 in I'm obviously no expert on parenting, but i think this is a good judgement of whether a kid might be mature enough to watch the tv show. Let's say your kid is 6, you're watching a program about dinosaurs, or aliens, something that doesnt exist. Your child sees it and is scared by it.

Probably not ok for them to watch a tv show like game of thrones when they are older. If your kid isn't frightened because he knows it isn't real, which is actually something that most smaller kids tend to forget, there's a bigger chance that he will be more mature when he is older.

I got a job writing articles reviewing games on a website a few months ago, and i have a fair amount of knowledge about video games, and trust me, of the "editors choice for a 14yr old" games, only one of them, which was "Alan Wake", was really appropriate for a 14yr old.

Exposing teenagers to frequent violence, sex, etc is obviously not good, but a thirteen year old thinking that sex is a swear word is way, WAY worse. Parents should be giving their children some leniency, if they are mature enough to realise that The walking dead, game of thrones, breaking bad etc aren't real, then there aren't many good reasons not to give them some freedom. When you have teenagers who are still oblivious to the real world, you'll have a bigger problem in the long run than letting a mature 15yr old watch a triple a drama.

Adult Written by cletusdsouza July 16, YAY This review Parent of a year-old Written by Dublin Parent January 13, Excellent series for Adults This is a really entertaining series for Adults, with complex themes and complex plots. However, it is definitely not suitable for children under 18 with high levels of violence rape and murder are depicted graphically but in tune with the setting and sex.

People of color are typically depicted as barbaric or animalistic or as slaves. Frequent graphic, gory violence, including executions and their bloody aftermath, and large-scale battles with powerful and gruesome fight scenes.

Swords, crossbows, clubs, and any number of other weapons visible. Sexual violence also is graphically depicted. Skeletons, zombie-like creatures, and dragons are among the show's scary fantasy creatures. Extensive male and female nudity; sex is graphically portrayed. Adultery, prostitution, consensual incest between adults, and sexual bargaining are themes. Pipe smoking is visible; characters are frequently depicted drinking excessively and sometimes behaving hedonistically, irresponsibly, or violently as a result.

Drugs are used to poison people. Parents need to know that Game of Thrones based on the novels by George R. Martin is big-budget fantasy series that frequently depicts brutal battles and graphic, detailed acts of violence including those against children and women , as well as lots of nudity and no-holds-barred sexuality.

The latter is portrayed in an especially iffy manner, with explicit discussion and depiction of incest, adultery, and rape. Strong language, including "f--k," is frequent.

Although the series is well produced, even the most sympathetic characters make plenty of iffy choices, and the over-the-top content is questionable for all but adult viewers. Add your rating See all parent reviews. Add your rating See all kid reviews.

Adapted from the popular series of fantasy novels by George R. Stark must act as protector and patriarch of his family and the throne itself as threats emerge from both distant lands and nearby traitors.

As the series progresses, betrayals large and small change the political landscape of Westeros irreversibly, leading to ever more complicated alliances and plot twists -- not to mention brutal battles and struggles for survival. As with most HBO series, Game of Thrones benefits greatly from the budget and talent poured into its execution. This is an artful series; the script is intelligently written, the show is well-acted, and the direction and cinematography are easily on par with any Oscar-nominated film.

It's easy to get drawn into the machinations of Westeros; the show is compulsive viewing. All that said, there are moments of brutal violence and sexuality that might pull viewers who aren't ready for them out of the narrative.

Certainly Westeros is a dark world inhabited by some very disturbing characters, but the violence is at times lingered upon in a very unsettling way. Although these moments may be mitigated by later plot developments, that doesn't change their impact as they happen.

For viewers who can tolerate these incidents, the merits of the series may win out, but it won't be for everyone. Families can talk about the impact of sexual violence on television. It was changed due to its suspected trademark issues from the Entertainment Software Rating Board over the similar " M for Mature " rating for video games and later it was changed to-rated TV-MA on channels. Most shows on HBO and Showtime receive this rating. This case is especially depending on the network it airs on. However, basic cable has made strides over the years thanks to networks like FX the biggest exception thus far , which is practically known for leaping over the bounds of content limitations.
