How many people visit the archibald

Female sitters outnumber the men although that is not a first. It is also the first time there have been more works by women than men in the combined Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes exhibition. In the centenary year of the Archibald, a portrait by Peter Wegner of year-old artist Guy Warren himself an Archibald winner in took out the prize.

The Archibald Prize will spread through three Gallery spaces while at Gippsland. Complementing the exhibition will be a range of special events and activities unique to Gippsland, including regular weekend talks by the finalists and opportunities to create your own masterpiece.

The Friends of the Gallery will host an exclusive Saturday night cocktail party and a screening of Looby , a new documentary about past Archibald Prize winning artist Keith Looby. In the early years, all entries were hung. The Packing Room Prize was first awarded in and is chosen by the gallery staff who receive, unpack and hang the entries. However, 52 per cent of the vote goes to the head of the packing room, Brett Cuthbertson.
